About Balance Dance Theatre
One of our African proverbs says… when the student is ready the teacher appears.
Out of a strong need for the continued growth, artistic development, and community involvement for our children, Balance Dance Theatre is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 2005.
Our mission, to facilitate artistic growth, which creates a platform for focus, self-confidence, improved memorization, and tenacity, discipline and positive comradery.
Our organization services professional and non-professional dancers inclusive of a youth arts academy servicing student’s ages 5-20 years of age with and emphasis of the introduction of dance to young boys.
Balance Dance Theatre prides itself on creating full length inter generational works that have been performed before 20,000 people in such prestigious places as: Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Natural History, NJ Performing Arts Center, local churches and the Schomberg Library for Research and Black Culture
Balance Dance Theatre is rooted in the belief that dance and other art forms have been and will be an integral part of the strategic machinery along parental intervention to implant solid life lessons useful in almost any area of the lives of our dancers ,professional, non- professional, our parents and of course our potential filled youth.
Our successful Arts in Education programs include dance, visual arts, and drumming for children with special needs and culminating events involving students, teachers, administrative staff, and parents putting them all on stage together.
The result… a complete change in attitude of all involved.

Atistic Director/Founder Obediah Wright's professional credits include working with A list talent such as Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson, Forest Whitaker, Stephanie Mills, Tony award winner Lillias D White, and Debbie Allen, Diana Ross
"As a master teacher I’ve taught classes in Japan, Sweden, Poland, China, South Africa, all over the USA including ALVIN AILEY.
Directing and choreographing for music videos, musical theater projects film and television and fashion, I was a very lucky kid as I too was given a scholarship for dance, which completely changed my life in every way imaginable
Although IM A proud alum of LaGuardia high school of performing arts and the Julliard school, it was my community training that pulled all the pieces together for me as an artist.
Again which would not have been done if someone did not think enough of my potential and give me a scholarship."
Alum of Balance Dance Theatre are working with recording artist PINK, CHRIS BROWN, JAMELLE MONET, ASHANTI, AND REMI MA
On Broadway in FELA, SPIDER MAN, THE COLOR PURPLE, AINT TO PROUD TO BEG, AND CIRQUE DU SOLIEL.
Marvel Televisions CLOAK AND DAGGER, in the masters program at FIT, selling their music on iTunes and on they’re way to becoming a pharmacist.
Currently our youth performance ensemble made their debut on the ABC-TV talk show THE CHEW WITH CARLA HALL, danced in 2 television pilots choreographed by yours truly, the tribute to Winnie Mandela, and many more.
